My Buttercup Bag from www.made-by-rae.com

I decided for a quick project this week to attempt to do this pattern I found.  It is a Buttercup Bag from www.made-by-rae.com.  Rae requests that her pattern is not sold and that bags made from her pattern are not sold.  That being said, I made my bag using an old bedsheet and some scraps I found.  I only printed half of the pattern pieces and just cut them on the fold because I'm too frugal with my printing ink to print stuff I don't need too!

I started by cutting out all my pieces.  There are two of everything.  I also later decided to cut out a pocket to put in the bag and not shown is the strap I made using my own tutorial on strap making.  I used a snap to close the bag and I sewed on a couple buttons just for a decorative element.
The main thing that makes this bag cute is the pleating.  The pattern shows you where to mark it for the pleats, but you could also just eyeball them (anyone notice how much I like to eyeball things!)

I attached half of my snap to each side of the top of the lining and sewed my pocket on before sewing the lining into the bag.  This is important to do!  (The original pattern used a magnet closure rather than a snap.  I just happened to have snaps handy!)

Here is my finished purse with a little button detail sewn on.  It's a cute bag.  Very easy to sew.  These bags can be worked up really quick, so you can have one to match every outfit if you want!  Not bad for a bedsheet anyways.  Man, I love thrift stores!
